long distance and workaholic?

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 1.5 years and we are now currently having a long distance relationship. He’s a workaholic and is always busy with graduate school ‘coz it’s his final year and he’s getting his professional license exam in couple of week. I’ve been very patient with him and def. understand that school is important for him. We talked on phone for about 3 times a week in average. And recently when I tried to tell him at times I feel neglected he’s always saying me not being there makes things harder and thinks school is more imoprtant than me.
I really want things to work out so I tell myself to be more patient and things will be better when I see him in 3 weeks time. So i just wonder if my attitude’s right or am being too silly to tolerate him. ANd how to make things work with a workaholic?
